The Joby Zivio is an elegant, high performance Bluetooth headset with a telescoping microphone boom.

An ultra-sensitive microphone sits on the end of the extendable boom. Microphone gain is automatically adjusted up and down as the user slides the boom to the optimal position. When the boom is extended to the corner of the mouth, the gains are reduced to their lowest levels where background noise falls away, leaving only clear, natural sound.

You also get sets of interchangeable earpieces and soft gel caps that are mounted onto a ball-and-socket joint to provide the most comfortable fit possible. An optional earloop attaches via magnet and can be used to position the Zivio in the best horizontal and vertical position to ensure all-day comfort.

The Joby Zivio Specs:

Bluetooth Version: 2.0 + EDR with Hands-free profile 1.5
Talk/Standby Time: 10 hours/12.5 days (300 hours)
Charges: via USB connection
Weight: 13 grams

Length (mic extended): 137 mm
Width: 15 mm
Depth (thickness w/o earpiece): 7.2 mm
Range (btw. phone & headset): 10m (33 feet)
Bluetooth Chip: CSR BlueCore 4

This is a good concept but the execution leave it wanting. The boom mike is a perfect idea and needs to become the norm. Unfortunately, the sound quality really wasn't any better than the previous bluetooth headset it replaced. There are six ear pieces -- three silicon "formed" and three black "rubber" buttons. The buttons are difficult to mount and quickly became just eye candy in the fancy box. The silicone formed pieces are probably perfect for the three ears they were molded for.

A bigger problem is the ear "hook" that magnetically attaches to the boom. Finding the right configuration is, of course, just part of the learning curve. But the placement of the magnetic attachment pushes the boom away from the head making it both unstable and less effective. A better configuration would be to have the magnetic attachment on the outside of the boom, but that would ruin the design esthetics.

Finally, while the basic unit is very small and compact, adding the ear-insert and the ear-hook makes for an awkward "package" that neither transports conveniently nor easily mounts. The first time I pulled it out of my pocket the hook fell somewhere on the subway platform (or track). Without the hook the unit is really unusable (in-spite of the pretty pictures to the contrary).
