 Sony Introduces Lightest Ever Notebook

Sony Introduces Lightest Ever Notebook

Nov 02,2006 by Editor

Sony surveyed 1300 business users their views on the perfect notebook and they asked for thin form factor, longer battery life, security and style. The answer to this is the Sony Vaio G series made from carbon fibre which is strong and lightweight. Powering the unit is a Core Solo U1400 processor at 1.2 Ghz and 512 MB RAM. Specs include 60 GB hard drive, Bluetooth, W-LAN, and 12.1 XGA (super slim LED).

Security is always a prime concern for business users thus the notebook is equipped with fingerprint scanner and HDD password so if the hard drive gets stolen your data will remain safe. The Sony G series laptop is rock solid and can handle falls upto 72 cms when operational. Coming to the most impressive features, according to Sony it has a battery life of 12.5 hours and weighs just 898 grams (w/out battery) and 1030 grams (with battery).

On the sidelines of a news conference on the new Vaio models, Sony Senior Vice President Yoshihisa Ishida said that recent recalls of Sony-made batteries are expected to have little impact on its personal computer operations. Top PC makers including Dell and Apple are recalling up to 9.6 million Sony batteries, which on rare occasions could overheat and catch fire, raising concern that production of replacement-use batteries may reduce Sony's supply capability for batteries that go into new PCs.

The Sony Vaio G series goes on sale in Japan from November end with prices starting at 164,800 Yen ($ 1400)
