Adobe has announced that it will be releasing a beta version of their upcoming Photoshop CS3 today. The program will be available for both Mac and Windows computers and should be available in the morning on the Adobe Labs website.

Photoshop CS3 is actually a suite that contains the original Photoshop program along with an upgraded version of the Bridge photo management utility and the new Adobe Device Central. Device Central is an editing program dedicated to created pictures for smaller mobile phone and computer screens.

Probably the most significant point in this release is the fact that it is a universal binary version allowing it to run on Mac’s with the new Intel chip, and and at the same time not forgetting about their Windows customers by supporting XP and Vista. Adobe says this is to allow a smoother transition to newer hardware platforms namely the Mac.

Beta testers will need a valid Adobe serial number, but you can still download a two-day demo if you don't have a number. The download weighs in at more than 350 for the Windows version.

The final version of Adobe Photoshop CS3 should be available in Spring 2007.
