The 8X recording speed is achieved using 6X compatible BD-R media.

The drive also records DVDs at up to 16X, CDs up to 48X, and supports DVD-RAM recording, with an eye towards data backup, making it an excellent replacement burner for a standard DVD drive while offering all the benefits of Blu-ray Disc technology.

Also included with the drive is CyberLink’s software suite for capturing, authoring, editing, burning and viewing high-definition content.

The BWU-300S drive can record up to 50GB of data for random access storage and backup on BD-R (write once) or BD-RE (rewritable) discs, or up to 230 minutes of high-definition HDV 1080i video on a BD-R/RE 50GB disc. It also supports recording on standard single layer 4.7GB DVD+R/+RW/-RAM discs, 8.5GB DVD+R double/dual layer discs, and CDs.

Times read: 786

Pioneer Develops 16-layer 400GB Blu-ray Disc

Its per-layer capacity is 25 gigabytes, which is the same as that of a Blu-ray Disc (BD). This multilayer technology will also be applicable to multilayer recordable discs. This development has bolstered Pioneer's confidence in the feasibility of a large-capacity optical disc, which is expected to become necessary in the near future.

Utilizing the optical disc production technology that it has developed in the DVD field, Pioneer solved these problems by, among other things, using a disc structure that can reduce crosstalk from adjacent layers, resulting in a 16-layer optical disc that can playback high-quality signals from every layer.

Pioneer achieved stability in the playback of recorded signals by employing a wide-range spherical aberration compensator and light-receiving element that can read out weak signals at a high signal-to-noise ratio in the optical pick-up mechanism.

Since the optical specifications of the objective lens, such as NA (Numerical Aperture), are the same as those for the existing BD discs, it is possible to maintain compatibility between the new 16-layer optical disc and the BD discs.

The 16-layer optical disc technology, capable of storing much more data than the conventional discs on one disc, will greatly reduce the number of discs to be used and therefore contribute to the conservation of resources.

Times read: 1209

Hitachi have launched two versions of the world's first Blu-ray disc camcorder - the DZ-BD70A and DZ-BD7HA.

The DZ-BD70A is a single drive camcorder that can record approximately one hour of FullHD 1920x1080 high definition video on an 8cm single-sided Blu-ray disc. Lifelike image reproduction and rich, immersive color are a result of Hitachi's 5.3 mega pixel CMOS image sensor and HD quality 12-element lens system.

Not only can the DZ-BD70A record high definition video to Blu-ray discs, it also comes with an SD card slot for storing digital still photos at 4.32 mega pixel max resolution. A unique Hitachi feature called Photo Capture allows users to search though recordings on a Blu-ray disc, grab any still frame of video and save it as a photo to the SD card slot in 2.1 mega pixel resolution.

The DZ-BD70A also allows video to be recorded in standard definition quality to DVD discs (DVD-R/-RW/-RAM).

The DZ-BD7HA camcorder provides the Blu-ray disc recording capability along with a 30 gigabyte built-in Hard Disk Drive that can record approximately four hours of 1920x1080 high definition video or up to eight hours of 1440x1080 high definition video. Also, with the simple push of a button, it can copy the contents from HDD to BD within the camcorder itself. Easy editing functions such as split, delete and connect can also be made right in the camcorder before using the 1-touch dubbing function to burn Blu-ray disc copies.

Hitachi features in its new Blu-ray Disc camcorders:

- 8cm BD/DVD Drive
- 30 Gigabytes of HDD Capacity Rivals That of Notebook Computers
- High Definition, Distortion-less Lens
- CMOS Image Sensor
- Simple and Innovative Designs
- Interactive User Guide

Times read: 1281
