Nokia unveils the Nokia 6208c

The touch screen on the Nokia 6208c is optimized to write Chinese characters and messages in the most natural way, with a pen. The design of the stylus, attached to the back of the phone, is inspired by bamboo slips and works perfectly with the large color display which is reminiscent of an ink stone, another element from traditional Chinese art and culture.

All these design cues are implemented using premium materials such as the stainless steel back cover, which makes the handset both easy to use and comfortable to hold.

Added to the Chinese language support, the device features a number of different languages and characters.

Nokia 6208c features a 3.2 megapixel camera, dual LED flash and 4x digital zoo, the large input area features larger fonts for messaging and browsing as well as viewing pictures and web pages. The new handset also supports optional microSD cards up to 8GB, providing ample memory for images, videos, music and more.

The Nokia 6208c is expected to start shipping in select markets in the first half of 2009.

Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic to rival Apple's iPhone

Nokia has said it would soon start selling the phone at 279 euros ($395) excluding subsidies and taxes, roughly half the price of the other main touch-screen phones on the market.

This could mean that customers may get the phone for free from operators when signing up for a contract.

Nokia said all major music labels and most independent labels will offer their tracks as part of Nokia's 'free' music bundle "Comes with Music."

Nokia's package will differ from others on the market since users can keep all the music they have downloaded during a 12-month subscription period. Nokia said it will also offer 18-month package together with operators on some markets. There are no charges for tracks downloaded as the cost is bundled to the phone price.

Given the codename, Tube, it's fair to suggest Nokia sees it as a mobile video platform. And with the DVB-H mobile digital TV standard now starting to gain momentum, Tube will probably be a handheld telly too.

The device looks like the iPhone’s long lost twin, except for a Nokia logo stuck underneath the handset’s earpiece. The Tube’s display doesn’t look as wide as the iPhone’s, but appearances can be deceptive. Nokia's design also lacks the iPhone's 'home' button.

Unconfirmed reports suggest Nokia's would-be iPhone killer will run on the Symbian S60 platform.

Using the Nokia 6212 classic for payment and ticketing purposes requires a service subscription and the installation of an appropriate secure application. Security for transactions is assured as the handset can be set to allow payment only when the user expressly authorizes the transaction via an additional passcode.

The sales pack of the Nokia 6212 classic comes with three sticker tags, one of which opens the NFC introduction in the phone.

Nokia today unveiled its newest Nseries device, the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet - WiMAX Edition, Nokia's first device engineered to take advantage of new wide-area high-speed mobile WiMAX networks.

WiMAX is a standards-based wireless broadband technology that delivers an open Internet experience similar to that of fixed broadband technologies with typical data download speeds of up to 2-4 Mbps per user with peak download speeds of up to 10 Mbps.
